Indoor Kart World Championship
In 2009 werden de wereldkampioenschappen in Brazilië, Macaé (bij Rio de Janeiro) gehouden. Samen met de jongens van BlueStar Racing ben ik in juli 2009 naar Brazilië vertrokken en heb daar een prachtige tijd gehad. Na een spannende week ben ik uiteindelijk 3e geworden. Met ons team BlueStar werden we wereldkampioen!
In 2010 was het WK in Phoenix, Amerika. Ondanks een druk examenjaar en de financiële crisis lukte het uiteindelijk toch om voldoende sponsoren te vinden. Ook deze reis was weer een geweldige belevenis. Het aantal deelnemers was dan wel lager als het jaar daarvoor, het niveau was nog nooit zo hoog. Na een spannende week en een zinderende slotdag ben ik uiteindelijk op de tweede plaats geëindigd. Ook met ons Team Europe, samen met de Belg Mathias Grooten, de Oostenrijker Werner Truegler, en de Brit Bradley Philpot behaalden we een mooie tweede plaats.
In 2011 en 2012 werd het wereldkampioenschap weer in Europa gehouden: in het Belgische Eupen (2011) en in het Duitse Essen (2012). Niet eerder was de deelnemersveld zo groot als in 2011. Maar liefst 188 rijders kwamen aan de start. Ik beleefde één van de beste WK’s die ik ooit heb gereden, beloond met een schitterende 3e plek achter de toppers Kenny Geldhof uit België die de wereldtitel prolongeerde en debutant Maximilian Beer uit Duitsland. In het teamkampioenschap werd ik met Veersedam Auto 3e. In het Duitse Essen moest in genoegen nemen met een 9e plaats. In de Nations Cup, de landenwedstrijd die traditioneel voorafgaand het WK wordt verreden, haalde ik voor het eerst het podium (3e), met team Holland.
In 2013 waren we te gast in het Deense Århus. Resultaten: 7e plaats individueel, 2e in het teamkampioenschap en 3e in de Nations Cup. Het WK 2014 was een weerzien met Brazilië, ditmaal in Nova Odessa. Helaas was dit WK het minste WK qua organisatie en locatie in al mijn deelnames en bleken de prestaties teveel afhankelijk van de kartloting. Ik wist nog wel 1 race te winnen maar in het eindklassement werd ik slechts 18e. In zowel de Nations Cup als het teamkampioenschap werd ik met BlueStar 3e.
In 2015 is het wereldkampioenschap verreden in Camerano, Italië. Voor het eerst werd er gereden met spectaculaire schakelkarts. Na 12 races waarvan 11 podiums en 3 overwinningen werd ik 6e individueel en opnieuw kampioen bij de teams met BlueStar. In 2016 gingen we nogmaals naar Italië waar er net als in 2015 met de PGK-Z schakelkarts werd gereden. Nooit eerder kwam ik zo dicht bij de titel, op 2 punten na liep ik de wereldtitel mis, net als in 2010 werd ik 2e, terwijl ik in de landenwedstrijd eerst de Nations Cup won met The Dutch Value en vervolgens ook wereldkampioen teams werd met BlueStar, voor mij alweer de 3e keer.
Waar de 2e plek van 2016 nog een grote teleurstelling was, viel in 2017 alles op zijn plaats in Madrid, Spanje. Na 10 jaar WK deelnames was het eindelijk raak, de titel waar ik zo lang naar uit had gekeken en van had gedroomd, kon ik nu dan echt toevoegen aan mijn palmares. Nog nooit was ik zo sterk, vanaf dag 1 voerde ik de ranglijst aan en per dag werd mijn voorsprong groter. Van de kwalificatieraces won ik er 7 van de 8 en ook de halve finale won ik met overmacht. Zo kon ik in de finale met een ongekend grote voorsprong van 27 punten alle risico’s vermijden. 172 deelnemers en ik mocht de grootste beker in ontvangst nemen, 2017 was mijn jaar! Ook in teamverband pakte ik wederom de wereldtitel, met BlueStar was dat voor mij de 4e keer.
In 2018 mocht ik voor het eerst rijden met het nummer 1 in het Poolse Szczecin. Met 133 rijders was het een sterk bezet WK met hele kleine kartverschillen. In de Nations Cup werd ik 2e met mijn Dutch Value teamgenoten Rico Haarbosch en Lorenzo Stolk, terwijl ik in het teamkampioenschap met BlueStar een 3e plek pakte. Maar het WK werd een groot succes voor mij, ik won mijn 2e individuele wereldtitel, een ongelooflijke prestatie! In 2019 gingen we opnieuw naar Amerika voor de 15e editie van het WK, ik eindigde hier op een 4e plek en werd tevens 2e in zowel de Nations Cup met The Dutch Value als in het teamkampioenschap met gelegenheidsteam Five Star Designs
WK Qualifiers
De afgelopen jaren heeft het KWC (Kart World Championship) enkele grote internationale kampioenschappen aangewezen als kwalificatie evenementen voor het WK. Tijdens deze open nationale kampioenschappen kunnen startbewijzen verdiend worden voor het WK van dat jaar. De kampioenschappen gaan over meerdere wedstrijden, veelal op 90kg zoals ook tijdens het WK.
Omdat er veel internationale toppers aan de start staan en je op mooie buitenlandse banen rijdt, doe ik ook graag mee aan deze evenementen. De afgelopen jaren heb ik deelgenomen aan de hierna volgende kampioenschappen. Kijk op mijn Blog voor verslagen.
Dutch Open Kartchallenge
(DOK, Nederland) & Indoor European Kart Challenge (IEKC)
In 2014 werd voor de eerste maal de Dutch Open Kartchallenge (DOK) georganiseerd bij Kart Centre Roosendaal. Dit gold direct als één van de WK kwalificatie evenementen. In zowel in 2014, 2015 als 2016 heb ik de titel weten te winnen in dit prestigieuze toernooi, telkens goed voor een WK ticket en schitterende prijzen. In 2017 werd ik 2e na een schitterende strijd met Rico Haarbosch. Vanaf 2017 werd het grootste indoor kart kampioenschap in Nederland gehouden op mijn thuisbaan in Middelburg, de Indoor European Kart Challenge. Nadat ik in 2017 als 3e was geëindigd, wist ik in 2019, toen het kampioenschap voor het eerst als National Qualifier Series gold voor het WK indoorkarten, als 2e te eindigen. In 2020 en 2021 werd ik opnieuw 3e en 2e in een sterk internationaal deelnemersveld.
British Rental Kart Championship
(BRKC, Groot-Brittanië)
Het British Rental Kart Championship (BRKC) is het open Brits kampioenschap indoorkarten dat tevens één van de KWC kwalificatie evenementen is. Ik deed in 2013 voor het eerst mee aan dit kampioenschap, destijds nog verdeeld over meerdere weekenden. In 2014 werd de opzet verandert in een driedaags toernooi op 90kg op 1 kartbaan, die van Milton Keynes. Vanaf 2014 heb ik dit kampioenschap 6 keer op rij gewonnen, een prestatie waar ik enorm trots op ben. Ik won telkens een WK ticket en prijzengeld ter waarde van £600, £900, respectievelijk £1000 in de laatste 4 jaar.
Belgian Indoor Kart Championship
(BIKC, België) & Belgian National Championship (BNC, België)
Het Belgian Indoor Kart Championship (BIKC) is het open Belgisch kampioenschap indoorkarten en tevens één van de WK kwalificatie evenementen. In 2015 heb ik in Brussel voor de eerste keer meegedaan en werd ik 3e en beste niet Belgische deelnemer. In 2016 had ik de eer om dit grote kampioenschap te winnen. Vanaf 2016 werd echter een nieuw kampioenschap opgericht dat tegenwoordig als WK qualifier geldt, het BNC. Dit sterk bezette kampioenschap heb ik in 2018 gewonnen!
Polish Indoor Kart Championship
(PIKC, Polen)
Het Polish Indoor Kart Championship (PIKC) is het open Pools kampioenschap indoorkarten en tevens één van de WK kwalificatie evenementen. In 2014 heb ik in Szczecin voor het eerst meegedaan aan dit mooie kampioenschap en heb ik daarbij een 3e plek behaald. In 2015 kon ik mijn 3e WK qualifier van het jaar winnen door ook in Polen de titel te pakken, een fantastisch resultaat tussen allemaal top rijders in een uitverkocht veld. In 2016 en 2017 ben ik nog tweemaal 3e geworden, waarna ik in 2019 opnieuw deze geweldige titel kon veroveren, gevolgd door een tweede plaats in 2020. in 2021 heb ik me voor de 3e keer tot Pools kampioen indoor karten gekroond.
Clasificatorias KWC Espana (Spanje)
Het open Spaans kampioenschap voor huurkarts wordt sinds een aantal jaar verreden bij Karting Rivas vlakbij Madrid en is gebaseerd op tijdrijden. Begin 2018 deed ik voor het eerst mee aan dit kampioenschap waarin ik destijds 3e werd. Na een 2e plek eind 2018 in de volgende editie, wist ik in 2019 deze titel bij te schrijven op mijn palmares.
Swedish Rental Kart Championship (SRKC, Zweden)
Het open Zweeds kampioenschap voor huurkarts wordt sinds 2019 met elektrische karts verreden bij Gokartcentralen nabij Gothenburg. De afgelopen drie jaar heb ik telkens meegedaan aan dit mooie kampioenschap en ben ik drie maal op rij tweede geworden.

Indoor Kart World Championship
In 2009 the world championship was held in Brazil, Macaé (near Rio de Janeiro). Together with the Belgium BlueStar Racing team I travelled across the Ocean. After an exciting week I became 3rd, and with our team we took home the team world title!
In 2010, IKWC returned to Phoenix, USA. Despite the financial crisis I managed to get enough sponsors to make the trip to Arizona. Once more the world championship proved to be the greatest indoor karting event. After a spectacular final, I was crowned vice world champion indoor karting that year. With our Team Europe, together with Belgian Mathias Grooten, Austrian Werner Truegler and Britain’s Bradley Philpot, we achieved a second place.
In 2011, 2012 and 2013 IKWC, or later KWC, was organised in Europe. In 2011 IKWC had more participants than ever before, out of 188 drivers I became 3rd again, a massive achievement behind Belgian Kenny Geldhof and German Maximilian Beer. In Essen (Germany) a year later I finished the world cup in 9th position. In the Nations Cup, which is traditionally held before the individual championship, I reached the podium (3rd) for the first time, with team Holland. In 2013 we went to Aarhus (Denmark) for another great week of racing, this time the results were a 7th place individually, 2nd in the team championship and 3rd in the Nations Cup.
The 2014 world cup was a reunion with Brazil, this time in Nova Odessa. Unfortunately, this event was the worst in terms of organisation and location of all my participations, the differences in karts were huge. Despite a lot of bad luck, I was able to win one race and to make it to the final once again, but in the final rankings I was only 18th. In the Nations Cup and team championship we ended up 3rd with our BlueStar Racing team.
In 2015 the world championship was held in Camerano, Italy, with the spectacular PGK-Z shifter karts. After an intense week with 12 races (11 podiums), the final ranking showed a 6th place for me, and a second team world title with BlueStar. The 2016 world championship brought us back to Italy again, but now in Martinsicuro. Never did I come so close to become a world champion, only 2 points separated me from the title after having driven many great races and putting in my utter best performance. Despite winning the Nations Cup with The Dutch Value (my first victory in this event) and the team championship with BlueStar, I left Italy very disappointed.
How different were things one year later, when 172 drivers from all over the world fought in Madrid, Spain for the most prestigious title in our sport of indoor karting. And this was my year, never before was I so good and so consistent as this year, winning 7 out of 8 qualifier races and the semi final in dominant style. From day 1 I was leading the championship and extending my points lead day after day. Going into the final with a record breaking 27 points lead I could avoid any risk and secure my so belonged world title. Besides that, with BlueStar we scored another world title for teams, my 4th.
In 2018 I could drive with the number 1 for the first time in Szczecin, Poland. In the Nations Cup and team championship I just missed the main price with a second and third place. The individual championship however was a great success, with 133 drivers and minimal kart differences a very competitive year, and I was able to come out on top and take my second world title in a row, a fantastic result. In 2019 we went to Charlotte, North Carolina where I ended the championship in a good 4th place with a runner-up spot in both Nations Cup with The Dutch Value and the team championship with Five Star Designs.
World Cup Qualifiers
In recent years, the KWC (Kart World Championship) designated some major international championships as qualifying events for the world championships. During these open national championships, free entry tickets can be won. The races are typically at a minimum weight of 90kg (like during the KWC) and the final result is based on several races during a weekend.
Because there are many international top drivers taking part in these events, it is the perfect opportunity to race against the best drivers at very good tracks all over Europe, and thereby improving your own level of racing. In recent years I joined many different KWC qualifiers, you can read reports about it in my blog.
Dutch Open Kartchallenge
(DOK, the Netherlands) & Indoor European Kartchallenge (IEKC)
In 2014 the Dutch Open Kart Challenge ( DOK) was organised for the first time at Kart Centre Roosendaal. It was directly assigned as one of the KWC qualifier events. In 2014 as well as in 2015 and 2016, I was able to win this prestigious tournament, resulting in 3 free tickets and other great prizes. In 2017 I ended up 2nd after a great and very close battle with Rico Haarbosch. From 2017 the largest indoor kart championship in the Netherlands was organised at my home track in Middelburg, the Indoor European Kart Challenge, after finishing 3rd in 2017, I managed to finish 2nd in 2019 when it first had the status of Dutch National Qualifier Series for the Indoor Kart World Championship, followed by a third place in 2020 and a second place in 2021.
British Rental Kart Championship
(BRKC, Great-Britain)
The British Rental Kart Championship (BRKC) is known as the open British championship and also a KWC qualifying event. In 2013 I raced in the UK for the first time in this championship, at that time still divided over several race weekends. In 2014 the format was transformed into a three-day tournament on the great track of Milton Keynes. From 2014 onwards I won the BRKC six consecutive times, a major result for me amongst so many international talented drivers. I received a KWC ticket and prize money worth £600 (2014), £900 (2015) and £1000 (2016-2019).
Belgian Indoor Kart Championship
(BIKC, Belgium) & Belgian National Championship (BNC)
The Belgian Indoor Kart Championship (BIKC) was the open Belgian championship indoor karting and one of the World Cup qualifying events. In 2015 I participated in Brussels for the first time, and I just missed out on the title, finishing in a nice 3rd spot and first non Belgian driver. In 2016 I had the honour to win this fantastic event in the PGK-Z shifter karts. From 2016 another championship (BNC) was originated which going forward was assigned to be the Belgian KWC qualifier event, which I managed to win in 2018!
Polish Indoor Kart Championship
(PIKC, Poland)
The Polish Indoor Kart Championship (PIKC) is the open national championship indoor karting in Poland, and like BRKC, DOK and BIKC a qualifying event for the world cup. In 2014 I went to Szczecin for the first time and ended up 3rd. In 2015 I was happy to return to this fantastic championship, and I managed to win my third KWC qualifier of the year! In both 2016 and 2017 I ended up in a 3rd spot behind 2 German drivers, especially Sebastian Papke appeared the man to beat in Szczecin winning 3 out of the last 4 editions. In 2019 I had the honour to win this very special championship for the second time. In 2020 I ended up in a very nice second place in a strong international line-up. IN 2021, I managed to grab my third PIKC crown.
Clasificatoris KWC Espana (Spain)
The Spanish national championship is organised at Karting Rivas close to Madrid and is all about time trials. In the beginning of 2018 I took part in this championship for the first time, ending up in third position. At the end of 2018 in the next edition, I was able to improve my result to a second place, while I was able to first win the championship in 2019.
Swedish Rental Kart Championship (SRKC, Sweden)
The open Swedish championship was organised at the venue of Gokartcentralen close to Goteborg since 2019. The event is raced in electric karts. I participated in the last three editions, finishing second in all three of the championships.
